Welcome to Barristers First 1st blog

My name is Scott Heptinstall and I am the director of Barristers First. I have been working in the legal sector since 2005 offering clerking services to Barristers in London, before leaving the sector during the pandemic and starting Barrister’s First.

As you may now know, having visited our website, everyone is able to instruct a barrister directly using the direct access scheme which was created in the early 2000s. Before this, anyone wanting to instruct a barrister had to do so through a solicitor and members of the public would usually use their local high street firm. Unfortunately, the majority of the public are still not aware of this and that it can save them money. Most barristers are not employed by a law firm but practice individually and are instructed per case. They usually club together, as individuals, in what is called a Chambers, and from there, they share the running costs of the Chambers, which can include, admin staff, IT equipment etc and this is one of the reasons why they usually have less overheads.

Barristers First was set up to help members of the public who required legal help an alternative to the status quo which can save them costs and give them more involvement with their own case without comprising on quality. Using Barrister First means, for the right case, that you will only need to instruct a barrister without the need to use your local solicitor firm therefore, you’ll only be paying for one expert. Their fees will be fixed in advance with you, so no more charges per email or telephone call.

If you are interested in the service or would like to know please feel free to contact us.
